What a gem! This place is nestled in a corner of San Mateo, and you walk in and instantly feel like you're on the island. They have a hot case in the front with the musubis, and you can order lunch with them at the front casher. Poke in the back, and lots of fun snacks, marinades, jellies, and drinks! It was the perfect humble 10-12 dollar lunch meal that taste like it was made at home. I tried the mochiko chicken, and my partner got the eggs and portuguese sausage. We are excited to come try more items soon!

This place is awesome! So many things that you can't find at most grocery stores, and the fresh food is great. I really liked the loco moco with mochiko chicken - the chicken was flavorful and the serving size was big. The poke was also solid, and the mac salad is a crowd favorite. Very kind service too, and there's outdoor seating if you can't wait to go home to eat your haul.

Great musubis Parking: small lot but decent amount of street parking in the area (paid) Food: Macaroni salad 3/5 - not pricy but not as flavorful as you'd get from hawaiian BBQ restaurants, pairs okay with flavorful musubis I guess Portuguese Sausage Musubi 3/5 - kinda just tasted like a hot dog with some rice & sauce, our least favorite of the batch Beef Kalbi Musubi 2/5 - the beef had no flavor so the musubi was lacking flavor Unagi Crawfish 3.5/5 - felt the combo of sweet unagi and salty crawfish clashed a bit and had a weird texture, i'd probably just get the regular unagi next time without the crawfish. good amount of crawfish though in the musubi Salmon Belly 5/5 - so good, super flavorful. we got 2 of these and wish we had more. still good when cold too Pork Lau Lau 5/5 - grabbed this one on accident but surprisingly good and ended up being my favorite, flavorful but you'll need a napkin for this one because it is oilyy They also have poke options which looked good, will definitely have to try those next time (and the mochiko chicken musubi) Overall some good, some bad but will definitely come back again (and get just the ones I like)

Finally got to check out Takahashi market after I was in the area last week for a dentist appointment on a Friday afternoon. The store was pretty quiet and there wasn't a lot of customers which was nice meaning no line! Yay! They have a small parking outside their store so I'm sure during rush hour it gets packed easily. My husband always raved about their spam musubi so I wanted to try it out for myself. I got to try out the salmon belly musubi & rib musubi. Out of the two, I did enjoy the salmon belly more! It did not disappoint! It's flavorful and very filling with the rice. The rib was okay, I don't think it was anything special. Overall I enjoyed the spam musubi and I hope to try another flavor next time!

I love the spam musubis at takahashi market! They're all packed with flavor and filling, and they are HUGE so you'll definitely get full. Depending on the protein inside it'll range from 8-10$ I believe. I liked the crawfish one and I've also tried the loco moco, which was ok. Takahashi also sells their own version of a popcorn chicken plate and I really enjoying every bite of it.

I would come here through out high school and it's been a decade since I have been back...it's just as good if not better than I remember. So excited for their new musubi's and we can't wait to come back to try more!
